What “board-certified” actually means

A board-certified ER physician has completed medical school, a 3–4 year Emergency Medicine residency, and passed a rigorous certification exam by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM). They renew that certification every 10 years through continuing education and re-exam.

Many freestanding ERs and urgent cares cut corners by staffing non-ER physicians. We don't. You will be seen by an Emergency Medicine specialist — every single visit, 24/7.
