Frequently asked questions.
How fast does ER migraine treatment work?
Most patients feel significant relief within 30–60 minutes of IV treatment. The migraine cocktail works quickly and effectively for most patients.
Will I need a CT scan for my migraine?
Only if there are red-flag features — sudden thunderclap onset, neurologic symptoms, head injury, or fever. For a typical migraine pattern, imaging is usually not necessary.
Can I get a migraine cocktail at the ER?
Yes. Our standard migraine protocol — which includes anti-nausea medication, anti-inflammatory, and magnesium — is highly effective and administered by IV for rapid absorption.
Is it safe to come to the ER for migraine?
Yes. Severe migraines are a legitimate ER complaint and often need IV treatment that simply isn't available at home or at urgent care. Never feel embarrassed to seek care for debilitating head pain.
How do I prevent future migraines?
Identifying triggers, staying hydrated, maintaining regular sleep, and sometimes preventive medications. We provide guidance and referral to a neurologist for ongoing preventive care.
