Frequently asked questions.
Is ultrasound safe in pregnancy?
Yes — ultrasound uses no ionizing radiation and is the preferred first imaging modality in pregnancy. It is safe at any stage of pregnancy.
How long does an ultrasound take?
Most studies take 15–30 minutes. Complex studies or those requiring multiple views may take slightly longer.
Do I need to fast before an ultrasound?
For gallbladder studies, fasting for several hours improves image quality — but in an emergency we image regardless of fasting status.
Will a radiologist read my ultrasound?
Yes — all ER ultrasounds are interpreted by a board-certified radiologist in addition to the bedside assessment by your ER physician.
Can I get a copy of my images?
Yes, we provide CDs or digital access on request so you can share results with your follow-up provider.
