Frequently asked questions.
How do I know if I have a concussion?
Any head injury accompanied by headache, confusion, memory loss, vomiting, dizziness, or visual changes should be evaluated in the ER. You don't need to lose consciousness to have a concussion — most concussions occur without blackout.
Will I need a CT scan after a fall?
CT is ordered for moderate to severe head injuries, elderly patients who fall, patients on blood thinners, and anyone with worrisome neurological symptoms. Our physicians use validated decision rules to determine when CT is appropriate — avoiding unnecessary radiation while not missing serious injuries.
Can elderly falls be serious?
Yes — falls are a leading cause of injury death in adults over 65. Older adults are more likely to have fractures, internal bleeding, and complications. Patients on blood thinners face a much higher risk of brain bleeding after even a minor head bump. Always have elderly falls evaluated promptly.
Do you do stitches?
Yes — we repair lacerations with sutures, staples, or skin glue depending on the wound location, depth, and type. All wound repairs include proper anesthesia, irrigation, and written aftercare instructions.
How fast can I be seen after a fall?
Most patients are triaged within minutes of arrival. Head injuries, inability to walk, and severe pain are high-priority — you will be brought back quickly, not left waiting in a lobby.
